Players will need to bring this waiver: 2007-8 BOARD CALENDAR (click here) 2006-7
CAPTAINS' PRACTICE INFO.: The 2006-7 Fall Captains Practice info. is now
available. Participation is recommended, but entirely
optional - and any youth player that participates in
these does NOT have to play for the JV/V this coming
year. These are just an opportunity for all players to
get ready for the upcoming season, and also for youth
players to get acclimated to the next level, get an idea
as to what to expect, etc. Even if you won't be playing
with our JV/V this season (playing youth instead, etc.),
you're still invited to participate in this opportunity.
These are run by Todd Woodcroft (former/returning youth
Mon. Night Skills Clinic Coach, NHL Video Coach, Team
Canada Gold Medal Winning Coach) & Stephen Yurichuk
(Elite Hockey/Skating coach). See their bios at: http://www.neehs.com/team.html. Additional coaching comes from former
All-America University of Minnesota Gophers &
multi-time National Championship winners Jody Horak (G)
& Lyndsay Wall (D - youngest olympic team player ever
at 16 in 2002). The cost of the Captains' Practices is $100. THIS
MUST BE PAID IN FULL AT THE FIRST PRACTICE AND RETURNED
WITH THE WAIVER FORM (on Sun July 30th - $100
check payable to "Simley Girls' Hockey
Boosters"). If this is a problem, let a Booster
Club Board Member know so something can be arranged
(Board Members are: Doug Abrahamson, Monica Boehmer,
Connie Miller, Reid Robertson, Judy Salz). The value of
this opportunity is far greater that the $100 cost (a
camp of 12 hours/sessions with these instructors at this
player-to-coach ratio would likely run at least $500, if
not $1000+). Players will be able to dress in the Team Locker
Room & have the option of storing their gear in there
too if they aren't participating in other hockey events
this Fall. At this time there only is an on-ice portion to
the Captains' Practices, but Captain/Players may choose
to add an optional off-ice portion at some time in the
future. The Captains' Practice Schedule (on-ice only) is
as follows: (Note: no practice on Sept 3 due to the
holiday)
ALUMNAE
DAVENPORT & JUNG NAMED MIAC ACADEMIC ALL-CONF.: St. Ben's Sophomore Ashley Davenport (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and St. Mary's Junior Nikki Jung (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) were among those honored as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's top academic women's hockey players. Jung was also named to the Softball list. The complete list is available at: 2005-6 WINTER/SPRING ALL-MIAC ACADEMIC 2006-7
SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED: The tenative 2006-7 JV/V schedule is now available at: http://www.simleygirlshockey.org/schedule.htm. This will be updated as needed, and up to 25 games each for JV & V will be scheduled. The first day of tryouts is Monday October 30th 2006, and Captains Practice starts Sunday July 30th 2006. GERTEN
NAMED 2006-7 PRELIMINARY VARSITY CAPTAIN: The coaches have decided to name one Varsity
Captain at this point in time for the 2006-7 season. This
decision was made in order to have a player
representative/liaison involved with Booster Club &
other team decisions, fundraising efforts, Captains'
Practice/off-season team & event coordination, etc. The remaining Captains/Assistant Captains will
be (s)elected near the start of the season as done in
past years. Players will have input on this, but the
coaches will make the final decision. Actions/leadership
during the off-season, and leading up to the regular
season, will be taken into consideration by coaches - and
should be by players as well when they vote next season. The coaches have looked at voting from last year
and decided to go with a top voted junior player as our
Captain at this time. Junior Goaltender Mel Gerten has
been (s)elected. Players should discuss their
concerns/desires about any team issues with Captain
Gerten. Coaches will also watch for which players are
assisting/helping Captain Gerten through the off-season
as they consider other Captains/Assistants and player
voting for next year. With an extremely young team next year (many
7th-8th-9th graders (25+ are eligible) & fewer
upperclassmen (11)) younger players may be considered for
Assistant and/or Captain roles as needed. This is
especially the case for the JV team which will likely be
essentially a U14 team with more practices/game time
& opportunities for top players to potentially skate
with the Varsity. All of the Captain decisions will depend on
player voting, actions/leadership, etc. of course between
now and the start of the season. Player conduct during the off-season (spring/summer/fall/etc.) will have a huge impact on who is (s)elected this coming winter/season. ALUMNA

DAVENPORT FINISHES AMONG ST. BEN'S TOP SCORERS: Sophomore Ashley Davenport (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) was among the top three scorers this past season for the College of Saint Benedict's of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
